Six bells commence tolling together and toll at intervals of 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 seconds respectively. In 30 minutes, how many times do they toll together?

A)
4 times

B)
10 times

C)
15 times

D)
16 times

Correct Answer :

16 times

Explanation :

To find the time that the bells will toll together we have to take L.C.M of 2,4,6,8,10,12

LCM of 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 seconds =120 seconds
So,the bells will toll together after every 120 seconds ie 120/60 = 2 minutes

In 30 minutes they will be toll together = first tolling together + number of times together tolls in 30 minutes
=1+number of times together tolls in 30 minutes
=1+ (30 / 2)
=1+15
=>16 times

All the faces of the cube of side 15 cm are painted in red, then it is divided into smaller cubes of 3 cm. How many smaller cubes have only two surface painted?

A)
24

B)
36

C)
16

D)
18

Correct Answer :

36

Explanation :

A cube of side 15 cm is cut into smaller cube of side 3 cm. So, one side of big cube equals 5 sides of smaller cube.
The big cube divided into 5 x 5 x 5 = 125 smaller cubes.
There are 8 original corners on the original cube having 3 painted sides = 8 cubes
There are 12 edges on the original cube, each edge has 3 cubes with 2 painted sides, 12 edges *3 cubes = 36 cubes
There were 6 faces, each with 4 cubes with one painted side, 6 faces *9 cubes = 54 cubes
Therefore, cubes which don't have any coloured side= 125 - 8 - 36- 54 = 27 cubes

A, B & C start running at the same time and in the same direction on a circular path. A completes a round in 252 seconds, B in 308 seconds and C in 198 seconds. After what time will they all meet again for the first time?

A)
26 minutes 18 seconds

B)
42 minutes 36 seconds

C)
45 minutes

D)
46 minutes 12 seconds

Correct Answer :

46 minutes 12 seconds

Explanation :

A, B and C will meet again =L.C.M. of 252, 308 and 198 seconds
that is
252 = 2 * 2* 3 * 3 * 7
308 = 2 * 2 * 7 * 11
198 = 2 * 3 * 3 * 11
So, LCM = 2 * 2* 3 * 3 * 7 * 11 = 36 * 77 seconds = 2772 seconds i.e., 46 min. 12 sec

A cube of side 12 cm is painted red on all faces and cut into smaller cubes each of 3 cm each. What is the total number of smaller cubes having none of their faces painted?

A)
8

B)
12

C)
16

D)
24

Correct Answer :

8

Explanation :

A cube of side 12 cm is cut into smaller cube of side 3 cm. So, one side of big cube equals 4 sides of smaller cube.
The big cube divided into 4 x 4 x 4 = 64 smaller cubes.
There are 8 original corners on the original cube having 3 painted sides = 8 cubes
There are 12 edges on the original cube, each edge has 2 cubes with 2 painted sides,12 edges *2 cubes =24 cubes
There were 6 faces, each with 4 cubes with one painted side, 6 faces *4 cubes = 24 cubes
Therefore, cubes which don't have any coloured side= 64 - 8 - 24 - 24 = 8 cubes
